Match number one is in the books for St. Mary’s golf team, which defeated Pentucket 175-102 at Tedesco Country Club Wednesday afternoon.
“I’m very impressed with the first appearance,” coach Jay Fiste said. “On tough greens, they played pretty well and we’re looking forward to a nice season.”
Shea Newhall and Micah Hashikowa led the way with 32 points, followed by Kyle Rush (28), Josh Doney (23), Andrew Potter (20), Matt Smith (20), Stephen Nason (20), and Jared Burke (18).
“We have several young, new additions that are going to get a lot of playing time,” Fiste said. “They started really well.”
The Spartans host Marblehead at Hillview on Thursday (1 p.m.).
“They’re always tough, and then we’ve got about three matches a week moving forward,” Fiste said.

The Swampscott golf team (0-1) took on Danvers in its opening match of the season, but fell short of the win.
Ben O’Brien, Mike Collins and Sam Moscoso won their matches for the Big Blue, who look to reel in the Gloucester Fishermen come Thursday at Bass Rocks (4 p.m.).
