Swampscott field hockey handles Gloucester (ROUNDUP)

In a hard-fought home game, Swampscott’s field hockey team (1-0) defeated Gloucester 3-2 on Tuesday. Senior forward Sophia Cicciotti led the way with two goals, followed by Lucy Brown who snagged the other. Coco Clopton dished out two assists, while Lylah Caplan stood strong with five saves.

The Big Blue host Danvers on Thursday (4:30 p.m.).

BOYS SOCCER

Lynnfield 4

Triton 0

In “a good team win” according to Lynnfield coach Brent Munroe, the Pioneers (1-0) put up a four-piece against Triton at home.

“We played pretty well,” Munroe said. “I’m happy we won [and] we had four different goal-scorers.”

Those four were Dillon Reilly, Tyler Maddox, Matt Reinhold, and Joel Anthony, while Kelan Cardinal played well between the pipes.

VOLLEYBALL 

Lynn Tech 3

Academy of Notre Dame 1

The Tigers won their first match of the season in set scores of 25-20, 25-13, 26-28, and 25-23 against Notre Dame. 

Maria Groscos had nine kills and three aces, while Ariana Camilo had five aces, three kills, and a pair of blocks. Lesnee Izaguirre had three aces, three kills, one block, and one dig, while Ana Godoy had six digs. Jianny Bernabel impressed with four aces.

Marblehead 3

Beverly 0

Marblehead’s girls volleyball team (1-0) defeated Beverly at home in sets of 25-19, 25-13, and 25-15.

Remington Tilkens had 12 digs, Mari Modryznska collected eight kills, and Sammy Walker added five kills. Eva Burke finished with 16 sets in total for Marblehead, which faces off against Saugus at home on Wednesday.

GOLF 

St. Mary’s 173

Fenwick 165

St. Mary’s golf team (2-1) defeated Fenwick 173-165 on Tuesday to begin 1-0 in the Catholic Central Conference.

“Our best point-getter was Chase Collins with 30 points,” St. Mary’s coach Jay Fiste said. “Then, Shea Newhall with 28 points.”

Andrew Potter added 27 points, followed by Matt Smith (23), Jared Burke (22), Kyle Rush (22)  and Stephen Nason (21) to round out the top seven.

“They have a good lineup, but I think we were more consistent in the bottom of our lineup,” Fiste said. “That’s how we eeked it out I think.”

Swampscott 64

Salem 8

Swampscott (1-0) is perfect on the young season as the Big Blue played to their name with a 64-8 handling of Salem. Jason Bouffard scored a 34, while Ben O’Brien and Dawson DiBarri carded 38 alongside Quinn Fitzpatrick (39).

The Big Blue return to action Wednesday against Danvers.

Masconomet 38

Peabody 34

In another close match for Peabody’s golf team, Masco squeaked out a 38-34 victory over the Tanners. Matt Ryder, Mike Ryan, and Nathan Palhare all won their matches for Peabody, which returns to host Saugus on Thursday.

Marblehead 44

Danvers 28

The Marblehead golf team (3-0) remained perfect on the season, topping Danvers 44-28 on Tuesday. Matches were won by Simon Quicken 6-3 (40), Jacob Hershfield 5.5-3.5 (38), James Bickell 7.5-1.5 (40), Matt Mahan 6.5-2.5 (42), and Toby Grenier 6.5-2.5 (42).

The Magicians host Winthrop at Tedesco Country Club on Thursday.
