You know what I’ve been thinking? After three early-season golf matches, you can learn a lot from a team. Two things about St. Mary’s: it can win matches, and respond from adversity.
The Spartans topped Pentucket 175-102 in match one of the season. Shea Newhall and Micah Hashikowa led the way with 32 points, followed by Kyle Rush with 28.
Josh Doney (23), Andrew Potter (20), Matt Smith (20), Stephen Nason (20), and Jared Burke (18) all played well in the victory.
Two days later, coach Jay Fiste and company went up against “a tough team” in Marblehead. He was right, as the Magicians defeated St. Mary’s 196-182 at Hillview Country Club.
Despite the result, five Spartans tallied at least 27 points (Newhall, Hashikawa, Smith, Chase Collins, and Nason).
Good teams answer. St. Mary’s defeated Bishop Fenwick 173-165 on Tuesday with Collins leading all scorers with 30. Newhall added 28, while Potter chipped in – no pun intended – with 27.
Spartans, good week.
