You know what I’ve been thinking? Not many teams can escape Piper Field in Marblehead with a win, but Bishop Fenwick’s football team had different plans Friday night.
Right off the bat, you have to give credit to Fenwick’s determination. The Crusaders trailed the Magicians 10-0 at halftime after Marblehead’s Greg Motorny (field goal) and Will Corsini (rushing touchdown) put points on the board.
But instead of pouting, Fenwick pounced. In the third quarter, quarterback Luke Connolly threw an 18-yard strike to Odin Garron. After Aidan Silva nailed the extra point, the lead was 10-7 in the blink of an eye.
Fast forward to the fourth quarter. Brayden Clifford tossed one to Kurtis Bruch for a 48-yard score. Silva converted on another kick, and the visitors jumped ahead 14-10.
Marblehead had its chance in the fourth quarter, but turned the ball over on downs. Piper Field was silenced, and that was all she wrote.
Fenwick travels to take on Arlington Catholic at 6 p.m Friday.
To coach Dave Woods and the Crusaders, good week.
