To the editor:
Reading the Tuesday, Sept. 12, edition, it appears the city has reached another financial milestone: the elimination of the debt borrowed from the state. These milestones don’t happen overnight, and only happen when communities have fine leadership.
Lynn has that leadership in Mayor Jared Nicholson. With fine leadership in other areas of city government, Lynn is making great strides to go from a good city to a great city.
A lot of credit also goes to our city employees, who strive on a daily basis to work hard in bringing about positive results for Lynn on both sides of government, municipal and schools.
As with any community there is still work to be done, as witnessed last week with gun violence.
This is where the voters come into play. You need to get out on election day, and elect people to office who will continue to work on behalf of the city population to effect positive change.
In particular, we need more youth programs and behavioral health interventions, which in this writer’s opinion do a great job now, however could use more staffing, along with additional staffing for the fire and police departments.
To the voters of Lynn, pay close attention to where candidates stand on these issues, and also where they stand on infrastructure issues, i.e. both sides of government, municipal and schools. These will be the candidates for City Council and School Committee.
If you want to continue the forward progress of Lynn, that choice is up to you, the voter.
Sincerely,
John S. Norton
Lynn
