LYNN — Lynn Arts/Lynn Museum Executive Director Doneeca Thurston and Grand Army of the Republic Hall and Museum Curator and Building Manager Wendy Joseph joined Attorney James J. Carrigan on his Lynn Community TV show, “The American Dream,” this week to discuss defending democracy.
The show, which airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m., Fridays at 8 p.m., and Saturdays at 7 a.m. on Comcast Channel 3 and Verizon Channel 38, is “designed to give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at how public and private policy is developed,” according to Carrigan.
Thurston is set to moderate a “Defending Democracy” event on Oct. 4 at the City Hall auditorium, which itself stems from research Lynn native Steve Matthews did into his own family background.
The conversation between Thurston, Joseph, and Carrigan ran for just less than half an hour and began with a discussion of the origins of the Defending Democracy initiative, which is set to celebrate the 160th anniversary of several key Civil War events, including the Emancipation Proclamation, the Gettysburg Address, and the Battle of Gettysburg.
“All of those things, seminal speeches and situations, we are still dealing with those very issues that Lincoln was trying to address in our democracy, which we feel needs defending,” Joseph said.
Episodes can be found on the Lynn Community Television website after they air.
