LYNN — Heading into Friday night’s football game at Manning Field, Everett (2-1) had outscored Lynn English (0-3) 79-0 spanning back to 2021.
Despite a new era of head coaching within the Greater Boston League programs – Everett’s Justin Flores in year one; English’s Anthony LaFratta in year two – 2023 was more of the same.
In the 35-0 final, Everett (253 rushing yards) snagged its second win in three weeks, while English (34 total yards) remained winless as October spooks closer.
Talk about a fast start. It took Everett just 72 seconds to find the endzone on a 10-yard rush from Damien Lackland – his first of two touchdowns.
English played the Tide tough, however. On Everett’s next possession, quarterback Carlos Rodrigues was intercepted by captain Alijah Wallace of the Bulldogs.
It was to no avail. English suffered three-and-outs on its first two drives, and punted five times in as many possessions as Everett held a 21-0 halftime lead courtesy of Shane MacKenzie and Christian Zamor rushing touchdowns.
Zamor carried 11 times for 217 yards and three touchdowns.
Despite the slow first half, it wasn’t without highlights for English. Limbert Thomas impressed with a 10-yard rush through traffic and Jaiden Rosario (3 competitions, 24 passing yards) threw a dime to Mitchell Purter on an 11-yard slant.
Everett finished the half with 184 rushing yards while English tallied 20 yards after two quarters. Unfortunately for the hosts, the second half was just a replay.
Rosario was sacked on the second play from scrimmage to kick off the third quarter, and Zamor’s second rushing touchdown of the night (28-0; 6:45) deflated the Bulldogs.
English finished with three first downs, and that was all she wrote.
The Tide are 11-1 against English in a series dating back to 1942. The Bulldogs’ lone win came in 1991.
Everett hosts BC High at 7 p.m. Friday, while English welcomes Revere at 5 p.m. the same night.
