September 26, 2023 by Joey Barrett

The Bishop Fenwick girls cross country team (3-0) defeated Arlington Catholic, 15-48, at their home course in Peabody. A three-way tie for first place by Julia Davis, Marianna Kay and Adelaide Sweatman (21:38) sealed the deal for the Lady Crusaders.

Closely behind were Caroline Blatchford, Emily Elliott and Olivia Rowe in a three-way tie for fourth. Avalon Donlon and Mary Fallon also ran well.

Fenwick’s boys (2-1) outran Arlington Catholic, 19-39, behind the 1-2 finish of Sam and Doron Appleyard. Both ran 30 seconds faster than their previous bests.

Rounding out the top five were Luis Araujo (4th) and John Reilly (5th) with their fastest times of the season. Nondas Lagonakis (7th) and Michael Mazzarella (8th) also paced the Crusaders.

Fenwick travels to face Wrentham on Saturday in the Frank Kelley Invitational.

Leading Pentucket 2-0 at halftime, the Pioneers scored four goals early in the second half to put the opposition on ice Tuesday.

Rocco Schena and Dillon Reilly registered two goals and two assists apiece, followed by Brendan Sokop and Alejandro Raimondi with a goal each.

Lynnfield travels to face Ipswich on Thursday.

The Rams found the back of the net three times, but were doubled up by Everett on Tuesday, 6-3, in enemy territory. The sophomore trio of Edison Rodriguez, Jose Coral, and Edison Chacon scored for Classical.

Somerville 2
English 0

In a “tough game against a really good team” according to English coach Valdrim Xhemajli, his Bulldogs were tied 0-0 at the half against Somerville, but lost 2-0 Tuesday.

“They got the better of us in the last 10 minutes of the game,” Xhemajli said. “I’m proud of the effort our players put out and Byron Cardona played a terrific game in net.”

Four goals, four scorers. Gianna Parker, Sienna McLean, Kaydee Rouse, and Ariana Martinez all delivered for the Rams (3-2-1) Tuesday en route to a three-goal win against Everett.

Somerville 10
English 1

Despite Kiki Moun finding twine for English’s lone goal, the Bulldogs (0-5) met their match in Somerville ahead of Thursday night’s traditional rivalry game against Classical.

“Gracie Mullloy played well in net and didn’t give up. Angela Martinez and Mariah Fowler continue to be great leaders on the field,” said English coach Abby Driscoll. “Despite the record and score, we are making improvements and getting better every game.”
