Lynnfield coach Brent Munroe said, despite the 3-1 win, Thursday’s bout against Ipswich was closer than the score indicated.
The Pioneers (7-0-1) led 1-0 at halftime thanks to a Dillon Reilly goal off an assist from Matt Reinhold.
“It was a very hard-fought game,” Munroe said. “They played really hard and they put a lot of pressure on us.”
At the 20-minute mark of the second half, Nate Clancy scored his first goal of the season before Reilly followed with an insurance goal. Kelan Cardinal made six saves between the pipes.
“He faced a number of shots and did a good job,” Munroe said of his keeper.
Lynnfield travels to face undefeated Masco on Monday.

Lynnfield’s girls soccer team (7-1) put on another show, this time against Ipswich at home in a 3-1 final.
“We returned a lot of players this year. We didn’t graduate that many and the players we had were young last year. We’re older now and more seasoned,” coach Mark Vermont said. “We’ve got a little bit more depth. I think the girls are hungry.”
Bella Carroll scored in the sixth minute from Emma Rose, and again two minutes later. Ipswich scored a header in the 39th minute to make it 2-1 at the break.
“That was tough to give up a goal right before halftime. That gives a team a lot of momentum,” Vermont said. “We recovered well.”
Clara Caulfield scored a “beautiful goal” from Kaylee Barrett in the 73rd minute, as said by Vermont.
The Pioneers host Triton on Tuesday.
“The goal is to qualify for the postseason as quickly as we can,” Vermont said. “That (Tuesday) will be a tough one.”
