Let’s just say Tuesday was a very good day for the Lynnfield girls soccer team. The team defeated visiting Triton, 3-0, to improve to 8-1. Earlier in the day, the MIAA released its state power rankings with the Pioneers checking in at No. 3 in Division 4 behind No. 1 South Hadley and No. 2 Hamilton-Wenham.
The Pioneers dominated the Vikings from start to finish, holding them to just four shots, all of which were saved by goalkeeper Ava Gamache.
“We moved the ball around really well and had some good opportunities,” Lynnfield coach Mark Vermont said. “We need to keep using the width of the field because the ball moves faster than anyone else.”
Hannah Ozanian staked the Pioneers to a 2-0 lead in the first half, the first from Catie Kampersal and Clara Caulfield, and second from Emma Rose. Bella Carroll capped the scoring (from Rose) in the 58th minute.
Vermont added the defense was rock solid.
“[We have] our defense with Keely Briggs and Ally Sykes in the center and then you have Lily Rocco and Ariana Guarracino just locking it down,” he said. “Then, Ella Hayman and Addie Connelly came in and this led to us being able to just close it down. And our goalie, Ava Gamache, did a really good job, too.”

Our JV (junior varsity) defender, Olivia Carvalho, showed sparks and excitement every touch she got.”
