SAUGUS — The town’s cultural council is seeking funding proposals for its fiscal year 2024 grant allocation.
The Saugus Cultural Council received $14,900 in funding from the Mass Cultural Council, which doles out grant money to communities statewide to help fund activities and events at the local level, this fiscal year. “Educational, artistic, and community-engagement project organizers” in Saugus and neighboring communities were encouraged to apply for the council’s funds this year.
The deadline to submit an application for a grant is Oct. 17.
The grants can go toward a number of activities in town, with the council citing “exhibits, classes, festivals, field trips, short-term artist residencies, performances in schools, workshops, and lectures” as examples.
In the past, the Saugus Cultural Council has funded the Saugus Concerts at the Iron Works; classical-music concerts at the Saugus Public Library; field trips to the Boston Tea Party Museum and North Shore Music Theatre; passes for the Museum of Science; workshops for children, adults, and seniors; and a number of other activities and performances throughout the region. Last year, 32 projects split the funding received by the council.
For FY24, the Saugus Cultural Council said priority will be given to “programs that are accessible to the public and in exploring the visual arts, education, dance, drama, science, the environment, literature, music, public art, and wellness.”
“We strongly encourage applications from Saugus organizations, individuals, organizers, and more importantly, programs that take place in our community,” the council wrote.
Applicants are encouraged to refer to the Mass Cultural Council’s website to learn more about the program’s guidelines. Specific questions can be directed to the Saugus Cultural Council, which can be reached via email at [email protected].
