The Topsfield Fair, recognized as America’s oldest county fair, kicked off on Sept. 29 and will conclude on Oct.9, continuing a tradition that dates back to its founding by the Essex County Agricultural Society in 1818.
The fair has featured a diverse range of attractions, competitions and entertainment. Highlights of the weekend included appearances by the Budweiser Clydesdales, the New England Rodeo, a live concert by Clay Walker, a tractor pull contest, live pumpkin carving demonstrations, a draft horse show and the Mrs. Essex County Pageant.
The final day of the fair will be held on Oct. 9 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and will feature musical performances, wood carvings, pig racing, a hay toss contest, pumpkin carving, car racing, horse demonstrations and a demonstration by the State Police K-9 Unit. The event concludes with performances by the Flying Wallendas, showcasing their daredevil stunts and high-wire acts, and the Demolition Derby, which is expected to be standing-room-only.
