One game, five goals for the undefeated St. Mary’s boys soccer team, which now stands at 8-0-2 near the halfway point of October.
In a 5-0 win against Bishop Stang, Anthony Gomez (2 goals), Kaya Jackson, Marcos Weber, and Eider Solis all scored.
“We saw strong play on both sides of the ball with our defense holding strong for its seventh shutout of the season,” coach Shane McCarran said.
St. Mary’s has tucked 41 goals this season, compared to just two against.

In a “hard-fought game by both teams” according to Peabody coach Stan McKeen, his Tanners (5-2-3) tied Masco, 2-2.
Luke Murray scored on a direct kick, followed by Abou Kaba off an assist from Kacper Kowalczyk. McKeen added that Yanni Pappas, Fabio Goulart, Lucas Silva, and AJ Forte all played strong games.

In a tough match against the Gloucester Fishermen, Swampscott got them to bite, but couldn’t quite reel them in. The action ended in a 1-1 tie.
Greta Siefken scored an unassisted goal for the Big Blue, while Eve Byrne performed well between the pipes.

Courtesy of superstar Sophie Skabeikis, who netted both St. Mary’s goals, her Spartans left Dartmouth salvaging a 2-2 tie. The Spartans’ record now stands at 6-6-1.
“It was great to get a comeback against a tough opponent on the road after a tough loss,” coach Jim Foley said. “Issie Skabeikis, Bella Owumi, and Ava Nason all played outstanding games.”

In an intercity matchup at Gannon Municipal Golf Course, the Spartans (10-4) took care of the Bulldogs in a shortened match (darkness).
Shea Newhall (31 points), Matt Smith (29), Micah Hashikawa (26), and Kyle Rush (23) led St. Mary’s, which returns to action Thursday at Lowell Catholic.

At Olde Salem Greens on Wednesday, all eight Magicians (11-1) won their matches against Salem. Charlie Grenier was the medalist with a 36, followed by Marty Ryan (37), Toby Grenier (37), Jacob Hershfield (38), and Matt Mahan (38).

Despite Peabody’s Nate Palhares winning his match, 7.5-1.5, the Tanners (6-4) were handled by Bishop Fenwick at home.
Peabody returns to its home course Thursday against Swampscott.

In set scores of 23-25, 25-18, 23-25, 25-22, and, ultimately, 15-17, Peabody (12-2) lost for just the second time this fall.
Abby Bettencourt (33 assists, 8 kills), Lizzy Bettencourt (27 kills, 3 aces), and Kayla Landry (3 kills, 3 blocks) put on a show for Peabody, which faces Newburyport on its homecourt this Friday.

Swampscott outlasted Saugus in set scores of 20-25, 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, and 15-10 Wednesday as the captains of the Big Blue stepped up.
Fayth Bascon had 11 kills, Jamila Oriakhi added eight aces, Brooke Farnum recorded four blocks, while Sofia Comfort and Emily Noci each held down serve receive.
CROSS COUNTRY
Swampscott’s boys and girls cross country teams beat the Winthrop Vikings Wednesday, each in 15-50 fashion.
On the boys’ side, Hunter Hersey, Anthony Colella, Simon Brown, Carson Lau, and Eli Cobbett all ran well, while the Vikings were led by Thomas D’Amico, Liam Kennedy, and Liam Natarens.
The Big Blue girls were anchored by Theia Giantis, Collette Heil, Aileen Cornwall-Brady, Evelyn Richardson, and Lila Vander Linden. The Lady Vikings received strong performances from Bailey and April Ferguson, as well as Annabelle Giardino.
The Marblehead boys cross country team (6-0) traveled to Bradley Palmer State Park to take on Masconomet and Danvers. The boys defeated Masconomet, 19-37, and Danvers, 25-30.
The team was led by a wire-to-wire 15:47 win by Isaac Gross.
“It was an impressive performance by Isaac as he has been recovering from an illness,” Marblehead coach Brian Heenan said.
Nate Assa continued to impress with a second-place finish of 16:0; Will Cerrutti finished fourth in 16:08.
As for the girls, they lost to Masconomet and won against Danvers to move to 5-1 on the season. Marrietta O’Connell and Cat Piper took first and second overall, respectively.
