GLOUCESTER — Aiming to avenge last season’s 48-22 home loss at the hands of Gloucester, Saugus’ football team will have to wait another year.
In Thursday’s 27-8 road loss to the Fishermen (4-2), the Sachems (3-3) dropped to .500 after beginning the fall 3-0.
Gloucester’s Camryn Rodolosi scored the first touchdown of the game on a 12-yard run in the opening minutes – a telling first chapter of a dominating book.
Despite a nine-minute drive from Saugus in response, Kayden Souza took a second-quarter interception back for a pick-six to halt any momentum (14-0).
Saugus quarterback Jordan Rodriguez was sacked twice in the second quarter as Gloucester led, 21-0, at halftime.
That said, despite dropping a third consecutive game, and without star players Cam Preston and Braden Faiella, positives were present.
Ameen Taboubi hauled in a 35-yard touchdown pass from Rodriguez, and Tommy DeSimone snagged an interception.
Saugus heads to Falmouth next Saturday, Oct. 21 (1 p.m.), followed by a game against Winthrop before its Thanksgiving date with Peabody.
