LYNN — The Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire at 73 Parkland Ave. that filled the area with smoke Friday night.
Fire Chief Dan Sullivan said that the occupant of the house called the department when she smelled smoke.
When firefighters arrived at the home, they encountered smoke coming from the building’s basement that made it difficult to access.
“We went to two alarms, and there are no injuries that I know of at this time,” Sullivan said at the scene.
Sullivan added that the fire seemed to be contained, and applauded the firefighters who responded for their hard work and dedication to the city.
“The guys worked really hard, especially with the difficult access in getting through the basement,” he said.
In addition to the Fire Department, the Police Department, Peabody Fire, Cataldo Ambulance, and the Salvation Army were on the scene.
Neighbors sat on their porches and stood on the sidewalks watching dark smoke plume from the building.
One neighbor, Sandra Boukas, said she did not see any actual flames.
“Just smoke, a lot of black, black smoke,” she said.
