LYNN — A woman from the city has been honored for her compassionate work in health care.
Hospice Aide Luz Baez, who works at Care Dimensions in Danvers, was one of 10 winners of the Compassionate Service Award, presented by the Hamel-Lydon Chapel & Cremation Service of Massachusetts.
“Luz was selected for this award because of her compassionate care — she is the true embodiment of those words,” Care Dimensions President and CEO Stephanie Patel said. “I am immensely proud of her and all our hospice aides for their dedication and compassion.”
Baez has worked at Care Dimensions, which provides hospice and palliative care, for four years and previously worked at multiple assisted-living, hospital, and home-health organizations.
She said in a statement how important it is for her to treat all of her patients like she would treat her friends and family.
“I always treat them like they are my own,” Baez said. “I put myself in their shoes and treat them with compassion, which is a combination of love, dignity, and respect. I remind myself that they’re someone’s grandmother, mother, sister, or wife.”
She also noted how important it is to keep a positive attitude toward patients and their families.
“I come into their rooms like I’m going to a party,” she said. “I greet them with a big smile and will do anything to make them happy and help them not worry.”
According to Hamel-Lydon, the $500 award has been given annually since 2020 in appreciation of the special care and dedication health-care workers provide to patients on a regular basis.
“Hamel-Lydon Chapel & Cremation Service of Massachusetts appreciates the special care and dedication that firsthand health care workers provide for their patients and families,” Hamel-Lydon President Christopher P. Goulet Sr. said. “This is an exceptional honor that we are proud to share with such dedicated people.”
