LYNN — North Shore Community College has appointed Nadira McDonald as the school’s new assistant dean of postsecondary transition programs.
McDonald, who lives in the city, is taking on this role after serving as NSCC’s executive director of K-12 partnerships.
In her new capacity, McDonald will support the dean of postsecondary transition programs and NSCC in advancing programs such as Early College, Dual Enrollment, Gateway to College, and TRIO programs like Upward Bound, Talent Search, and the Economic Opportunity Center. Her focus will be on enhancing college-readiness initiatives with high-school districts and community-based organizations.
Her work will also involve collaborating with other NSCC departments to develop strategies aimed at improving access and the transition process to college, college readiness, and success in both higher education and graduates’ careers.
A press release from NSCC said that with more than 20 years of experience in education, McDonald has a track record of fostering positive outcomes for students from diverse backgrounds in both K-12 and higher-education settings.
“I believe in the power of higher education as a vehicle to socioeconomic mobility for disenfranchised communities,” McDonald said. “I love the space that early-college and pre-college programs such as TRIO occupy. I’m also a proponent of K-14/16 alignment as a means to ease the transition to college and eliminate barriers to student academic achievement. It brings multiple stakeholders to the table and forces cross-institutional, cross-departmental conversations that are needed for intentional collaboration to move the needle forward. I am grateful for the opportunity and excited for the work ahead.”
