After Lynn Classical topped English and St. Mary’s took care of Lynn Tech, the Lynn City Volleyball Tournament championship was underway between the Spartans and Rams (13-2) at St. Mary’s High.
Four sets later in scores of 25-23, 18-25, 25-21, and 27-25, St. Mary’s was crowned champion in a 3-1 final with Lorynes Suriel (7 kills, 6 digs, 7 aces, 11 service points, 23 assists) named MVP.
Sky Watson (18 digs, 9 kills, 7 aces, 10 service points) and Elizabeth Fox (10 kills, 3 blocks) led the Spartans’ charge, while Amanda Hughes (14 kills), Emma Chevalier (25 assists, 2 aces), and Brooke Braswell (4 kills, block) led the way for Classical.

In set scores of 27-29, 25-23, 16-25, 25-22, and 15-10, Tech (9-4) knocked off English in the consolation game of the city tournament.
Tech’s Maria Groscos had 10 digs, six aces, and six kills, Zahara Belizaire had 14 assists, an ace, and a dig, and Ava Bishop recorded 12 digs. Katie Tartarini added another five kills and three digs, followed by Ariana Camilo’s four kills, two aces, and two digs.

With Eve Byrne protecting the pipes, Swampscott took care of Mystic Valley, 2-1, Saturday after two unassisted goals.
Greta Siefken got the Big Blue on the scoreboard, while Victoria Quagrello secured the game-winning strike.

In its fourth consecutive game day, Lynn Tech (6-6-3) lost to Notre Dame, but scored the first goal of the game courtesy of Angela Reyes.
Jireilis De Jesus, as well as the defensive unit of Melody Veliz, Shery Hernandez, Federlyn Santana, Yudith Gomes, Ainet Ramirez, and Cindy DeLeon put forth a good effort.

St Mary’s (7-6-1) handled Arlington Catholic on the road, 4-0. Cierra Johnson led the way with two goals, while Georgia Allaire and Sophie Skabeikis added one apiece. Kylie Kennison secured another shutout.

Despite a direct-kick goal from Classical’s Tatiana De Leon, her Rams fell to the Vikings of Winthrop Saturday.

Peabody (5-2-4) came back from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits to salvage a tie against Billerica.
“[It was] probably our best complete game of the year,” coach Stan McKeen said.
Abou Kaba scored both goals off Luke Murray and Kacper Kowalczyk assists, while AJ Forte, Jaiden Fils-Aime, Yanni Pappas, and Aidan Pais all submitted strong showings, according to McKeen.

Bouncing back from its first loss of the season at the hands of Bishop Feehan, St. Mary’s (9-1-2) had vengeance on its mind.
Off a beautiful cross from Eider Solis, Kaya Jackson finished for St. Mary’s just six minutes into the action for the game’s only tally.
“Our boys competed from start to finish in this overly-physical match, which was great to see after a tough match against Feehan yesterday,” St. Mary’s coach Shane McCarran said. “We saw strong play from Brody McCarran, Cade Cornell, Hakeem Akande, Chance Bonfanti, and Thomas Weber on the defense side, and Anthony Gomez, Eider Solis, and Kaya Jackson led the attack.”
CROSS COUNTRY
There were 150 teams, nearly 5,000 runners, and some strong performances from Bishop Fenwick’s girls at the MSTCA Twilight Invitational on Cape Cod.
Freshman Olivia Rowe ran one of her best races of the season to finish sixth in the 2.1 mile race, one in which Mikayla Micieli also ran well.
“She (Rowe) got out fast and ran right off the lead pack to win a coveted MSTCA medal,” said Fenwick coach Fred Doyle.
The sophomore girls continued their winning ways with a first-place team finish (27 points). Led by the dynamic duo of Julia Davis (3rd) and Marianna Kay (4th), they smashed the 20:00 barrier in 19:40 and 19:41, respectively.
Adelaide Sweatman, Caroline Blatchford, Mireille Climenson, Nora Bonner, and Kelsey Boe all performed well for the Lady Crusaders.
The Marblehead girls competed in the Medium School Varsity 5K, finishing 12th overall. Marrietta O’Connell finished third in a blazing-fast 17:48 (40-second personal record).
Caterina Piper (20:00.2, personal record) finished 33rd, while Maren Potter rounded out Marblehead’s top three in her first full 5K (21:57.5).
