DANVERS — The Boys & Girls Club of Lynn honored four community leaders at its sixth annual gala Wednesday night at Danversport.
The honorees were Richie Warren Sr., Hall of Fame Award; Jimmy Connors of McGrath Enterprises, Helping Hands Business of the Year; Molly Cohen, Commitment to Youth Award; and Jeff Newhall, Commitment to Youth Award.
Yadiel Baez was named Youth of the Year.
The guest speaker was WNBA Rookie of the Year Aliyah Boston, who was an All-American at the University of South Carolina before being drafted No. 1 overall by the Indiana Fever.
Warren, a Boys & Girls Club member as a child, has coached basketball in Lynn for more than 20 years, including junior varsity at Lynn Tech for nine years and Lynn Classical since 2020. He works as a master electrician.
Connors serves on the board of directors of the Boys & Girls Club and the Lynn Youth Street Outreach Advocacy program. He has been an active volunteer and major sponsor of many events at the Boys & Girls Club and other agencies.
Cohen is the interim executive director of curriculum for Lynn Public Schools and the former principal of Thurgood Marshall Middle School. An educator for 25 years, she has worked in LPS for almost 20 years.
Newhall is director of athletics and campus operations, as well as the girls basketball coach, at St. Mary’s School in Lynn, where his teams have won five state championships. He is assistant director of the Agganis All-Star Games, a former member of the Lynn School Committee, and a candidate for Ward 1 city councilor.
