Friday night’s showdown between host Cardinal Spellman (6-2) and St. Mary’s (5-2) was scoreless by the tail-end of the first half. Freshman Maxwell Parent finished off a 90-yard drive before halftime, and his Spartans never looked back en route to a 12-0 victory.
Parent finished with two touchdowns, while Nick Marks hauled in three catches. Tyler Guy and Nate Cutone led the way defensively, and St. Mary’s picked up a crucial win with just one week remaining in the regular season.
The Spartans are back in action Thursday against Archbishop Williams. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Manning Field.

Lynn English (2-5) picked up a road win Friday night in a 20-6 final over Somerville. Junior Limbert Thomas led the charge with two touchdowns.

Thomas punched in another touchdown shortly after for English, which was also anchored by sophomore Shane Knowlton Simard (2 interceptions).
“It was probably closer than it should’ve been, but the defense played really well. I’m also very proud of my defensive line,” LaFratta said.
