You know what I’ve been thinking? In more ways than one, St. John’s Prep running back Cam LaGrassa knows how to step up.
Against powerhouse Catholic Memorial, which hadn’t lost to a Massachusetts team in four seasons, his backfield partner-in-crime, Dylan Aliberti, went down on the first play of the game.
LaGrassa had to step up, and exceeded any and all expectations, rushing for 254 yards in the 19-8 win.
He rattled off 18- and 30-yard runs in the first quarter, but that was just a preview. In the third quarter, he broke through – untouched – for a 75-yard touchdown to put his Eagles ahead by two scores.
LaGrassa’s strengths are simple: speed and strength. On some of his runs, he showed off his footwork to the outside, while other times, he put his head down for extra muscle yardage.
It’s not the first time LaGrassa has impressed this season – far from it. He registered three first-half touchdowns against Malden Catholic last week.
Cam, on the biggest stage, good week.
