LYNN — A 47-year-old man from the city was arraigned on a murder charge in Lynn District Court on Tuesday in connection with a shooting last month that left a 40-year-old man dead, police said.
Maurice Fussell allegedly shot and killed Earl Ricker on Lincoln Street the night of Sept. 2, the Police Department said in a statement. During his arraignment Tuesday, Fussell agreed to be held without bail, the statement said.
Police Chief Christopher Reddy praised the “determined efforts” of officers from his department and Massachusetts State Police in arresting Fussell.
“From the onset of the investigation, they dedicated themselves to gathering evidence and determining the facts of what occurred in their commitment to hold accountable those individuals who engage in violence in our community,” Reddy said. “Our community is safer today because of their efforts.”
Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker’s office could not immediately be reached to provide additional information on the case, including when Fussell was arrested.
On Sept. 2, Lynn Police responded to Lincoln Street around 11:01 p.m. and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds at the scene. The victim, now identified as Ricker, was pronounced dead at Salem Hospital. That killing came on the heels of a shooting earlier that same day that left two dead and five injured.
Fussell will return to court for a probable cause hearing on Nov. 20. He is being represented by Attorney Rosemary Scapicchio. Scapicchio’s office did not immediately return a request for comment Tuesday evening.
