Rise and shine. The Marblehead golf team scored a 311 to win the Division II North Sectionals Tuesday morning at Stow Acres Country Club. The Magicians were trailed by Gloucester (312), Reading (313), and Newburyport (320).
Marblehead was led by Jacob Hershfield (75 points) who snagged fourth place, as well as Charlie Grenier (77), Simon Quicken (79), Marty Ryan (80), Matt Mahan (84), and James Bickell (89).
The team, helmed by Bob Green, moved on to the DII state championship to be played Monday at Thorny Lea Golf Club in Brockton.
St. Mary’s also competed, finishing seventh with a score of 327. Performing well for the Spartans were Shea Newhall (79) and Micah Hashikawa (80).

The Pioneers took care of business against Pentucket in a 5-0 final with Dillon Reilly (2 goals, 3 assists) continuing his stellar season. Dhimitri Dono, Tyler Maddox, and Brenden Reilly also found the back of the net.

St. Mary’s won a five-set thriller in set scores of 23-25, 25-11, 25-20, 23-25, and 15-13 against the Bishops. Kyra Lominy (17 service points, 7 aces, 3 kills), Ellie Fox (15 kills, 9 blocks, 11 service points), and Vanessa Magliore (27 digs) played strong matches.

In set scores of 19-25, 20-25, and 14-25, the Marblehead volleyball team dipped to 6-11 after losing to Danvers. Deysha Amadis registered eight kills while Reese Friedman dished out nine assists. Alyssa Gentile had 11 digs and Sydney Faris added another nine.
Marblehead finishes its season Thursday at rival Swampscott.

Despite the 1-0 loss to Beverly, Peabody coach Jillian Tobin said it was her team’s “best effort to date.” Sophia Kassis played well in net with 17 saves, conceding just the lone goal on a well-executed corner by the Panthers.
“We are proud of our effort with our whole team feeling strong in the loss,” Tobin said.

In a Senior Day final at Blocksidge Field, the Big Blue and Masconomet fought to a 1-1 draw. Sawyer Groothuis played the role of the hero, tucking the lone goal for the hosts.
