LYNN — The regular season wasn’t easy for the football Spartans, who graduated a handful of key players in the spring.

St. Mary’s began the fall 2-2 after a 48-16 road loss to rival Bishop Fenwick, but instead of pouting, powered through.

With Thursday night’s 40-28 victory against Archbishop Williams (3-5) at Manning Field, the Spartans won their fourth consecutive game to finish 6-2 behind coach Sean Driscoll.

As for the conference showdown, Tyler Guy (2 touchdowns), Maxwell Parent (2), Yaniel Belliard, and Nick Marks registered the touchdowns, while Devell Pamplin picked off a pass right before halftime to prevent a driving Archbishop Williams from cutting into the lead.

Belliard and Parent each scored rushing touchdowns up the middle for a 12-0 St. Mary’s cushion early. Then, with 1:50 remaining in the first half, Parent showed off his speed, bolting down the left sideline for a 40-yard touchdown.

Joel Maggs played his first game of the season and didn’t go unnoticed. The senior registered several key tackles, including a third down stop against Luke Charlton of the Bishops in the second quarter.

As of Thursday, St. Mary’s was ranked No. 12 in the MIAA’s Division VI Power Rankings.
