Talk about starting quickly. In Saturday’s road matinee, The Lynnfield football team took a 28-7 lead into halftime against Hamilton-Wenham and rode it all the way to a 49-13 victory.
The victory avenged Lynnfield’s first loss – North Attleboro last Friday – and the Pioneers finished the regular season 7-1 behind coach Pat Lamusta.
“Defense and offense were churning, but we definitely had some special teams miscues that we need to fix,” Lamusta said.
Sophomore wideout Zahir Mitchell led the charge, totaling 115 receiving yards on five catches and two touchdowns (15, 33 yards). Senior Ethan Francis (3 catches, 29 yards) and junior Spencer D’Augusta (catch, 65 yards) also had touchdown receptions.
“I’m proud of the great receiving effort by Zahir, and seeing Spencer contribute on both sides of the ball. It was great to see both our quarterbacks have success as well,” Lamusta said.
Junior quarterback Tyler Adamo and senior David Tracy were a one-two punch in the pocket. Adamo (13-of-14, 190 yards) threw for three scores, while Tracy (3-of-4, 72 yards) threw for another. Senior Niccolo Antidormi (7 carries, 53 yards) and junior Jared Bernabei (4 carries, 51 yards) led the ground game.
The Pioneers’ defense allowed only 68 total yards, while the offense racked up a season-high 457.
FOOTBALL
St. John’s Prep 34
BC High 6
When a team rushes for 232 yards, chances are, it will win. Such was the case Saturday afternoon as St. John’s Prep (8-0) completed its undefeated regular season in a 34-6 final at BC High.
Jimmy Nardone rushed for two touchdowns, while Cam LaGrassa added 95 rushing yards. Quarterback Deacon Robillard tossed one to Gael Garcia to begin the onslaught, and it was all Prep from there.
The win gave their Eagles their first 8-0 start since 2002.
Whittier 30
Lynn Tech 0
After falling to KIPP last week, the Wildcats of Whittier bounced back in big fashion, conquering Manning Field en route to a 30-0 win against Lynn Tech.
After beginning the season 3-1, Tech has since dropped four consecutive games – three of which, the Tigers allowed 30 or more points.
