To the fine residents of the Town of Saugus:
It is my pleasure to offer my endorsement of Anthony Cogliano for selectman for the Town of Saugus. I have known Anthony nearly my entire life; we attended the Saugus Public Schools together, and we served as colleagues on the Board of Selectmen in Saugus for three consecutive terms, 1993-1999. It was during these six years that I came to respect Anthony’s devotion to his community, his tireless efforts to better the town, and his excellent leadership skills.
In the six years that we served together as selectmen, I worked closely alongside Anthony and our colleagues on the Board of Selectmen, the town’s administration, and the community of Saugus to forge a capital improvements plan that resulted in the construction of a new public safety building, public works facility, and senior center, as well as the restoration of the Town Hall and the Saugus Public Library. Anthony was a leader during this time, and his collaborative efforts were crucial to the success of perhaps the most significant construction effort to take place in the Town of Saugus prior to the recent construction of the new Saugus Middle/High School.
I am proud to know Anthony Cogliano and to call him a friend. I have known Anthony to be a person who consistently puts the residents of his lifelong hometown at the forefront of his interests. He has served his community in a number of volunteer and elected roles for more than 30 years. He has demonstrated the commitment, devotion, temperament, collegiality, and vision that I believe will benefit Saugus at this time as it continues to seek to improve itself as a community with much to offer. This is most evident through his recent efforts to establish a Charter Commission. The chief objective of the Charter Commission will be to review the charter that governs the Town of Saugus, which has not been reviewed since the 1940s and in doing so give consideration to potential changes that will better the town and institute operational efficiencies to best serve the citizenry of the town.
It is my observation that the present leadership of the Town of Saugus is one with a clear vision and goal of restoring Saugus to a community that values its residents of all ages, and it is my opinion that Anthony Cogliano has much to offer to the Town of Saugus as it seeks to achieve this goal.
I am proud to endorse the candidacy of Anthony Cogliano for selectman for the Town of Saugus. He has demonstrated that he is a dedicated and sincere public servant, and I encourage the residents of Saugus to support his candidacy.
Thank you,
Jon C. Bernard
