Like thousands of other youth organizations across the country, Camp Fire North Shore celebrated Lights On Afterschool on Oct. 26.
Lights on Afterschool is a nationwide annual event that takes place each year. The event allows us to celebrate with the kids, as well as advocate for the importance of high-quality after-school programs for children and youth.
The event is organized by the Afterschool Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and supporting after-school programs.
The main goal of Lights On Afterschool is to highlight the critical role that we play in the lives of young people. At Camp Fire North Shore, we provide a safe and structured environment for students outside of regular school hours. We also offer a variety of educational, recreational, and social activities.
To celebrate, our kids participated in creative activities such as drawing, painting, and special craft projects. The kids showcased their artistic talents by displaying artwork throughout each program location.
Camp Fire kids had fun exploring theater, music, and dance activities. We believe physical fitness is crucial for the overall development of children. Our programs include sports and fitness like Zumba, basketball, or yoga. Children participated in sports demonstrations and mini-games.
Our 21st Century Community Learning Center for Hood Elementary School kids has a focus on STEM education throughout the year. The kids are engaged in hands-on experiments, robotics projects, and engineering challenges.
Camp Fire North Shore aims to help children develop life skills and leadership qualities. Lights On Afterschool events are not only an opportunity for children to showcase their talents and what they’ve learned, but are also a way to emphasize the importance of after-school programs in the community. The event helps raise awareness around the positive impact and contributions made toward their education, personal development, and health of each school-age child in the City of Lynn.
