You know what I’ve been thinking? They were 0-4.
Yes, Marblehead’s football team was winless until Oct. 6. Fast forward to November, and the Magicians are .500 with a shocking upset under their belts.
In the Division IV state tournament, No. 14 Marblehead traveled to face No. 3 Middleborough – aka, a team that scored 208 points this season and had previously never lost at home.
Then, the Magicians stormed their way in there, winning 21-12 in a statement victory on Friday.
Finn Gallup found Ryan Commoss for a 21-yard touchdown, Colt Wales followed with a 4-yard touchdown pass to Andy Palmer, and Gallup rushed for an 8-yard score to seal the deal. Greg Motorny was 3-for-3 on his extra point attempts, while Julius Galante – among others – played well defensively.
The road doesn’t get any easier for the underdogs, however. They take on No. 6 Grafton this Friday at 6 p.m.
To coach Jim Rudloff and his never-quit Magicians, best of luck, and good week.
