Lynn’s Alex Newell to perform in Macy’s parade

November 21, 2023 by James Jennings

NEW YORK – Lynn’s Alex Newell will be in the national spotlight on Thanksgiving.

The Tony Award winner will perform with some of their fellow “Shucked” castmates will perform at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The performance will take place in front of Macy’s Herald Square, which is the end of the parade route.

Performers from other Broadway shows, including “& Juliet,” “Back to the Future,” “How to Dance in Ohio,” and “Spamalot” will also preform.

Newell, who attended KIPP Academy and graduated from Bishop Fenwick High School, won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for their role as Lulu in the hit musical “Shucked,” and became first non-binary actor to win the award.

That distinction, though, has drawn the ire of the conservative group One Millions Moms.

The organization has gathered more than 30,000 signatures calling for a boycott of this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade due to the inclusion of Newell’s and Justin David Sullivan’s performances, who is another non-binary actor from the musical “& Juliet.”
