While most children wish to see toys and gadgets sitting under the tree on Christmas morning, three siblings— A girl and her two younger brothers—are asking for something more important.
While the trio does hope Item Santa can help their family provide them with the toys every child desires, they also need school textbooks.
“This year, my little brothers and I have been very good, and we are doing very well at school,” the oldest wrote. “So I want to ask you this Christmas to give us toys and math books so we can continue learning.”
Christmas is the favorite time of year for millions of children, and the memories they make with their families on Christmas morning are irreplaceable. However, financial struggles will hinder many parents’ abilities to give them the Christmas experience their young ones deserve. Nonetheless, the holiday season can distract from the fact that struggling families need more than just novelty gifts. These siblings are at the unfortunate risk of losing out on the educational opportunities that could help them reach their full academic potential and shape the future they want for themselves.
Now in its 57th year, the Item Santa fund helps to make Christmas brighter for those in need. To donate, clip the coupon in The Item and mail it, along with your check, to The Item Salvation Army Santa, 85 Exchange St., Lynn, MA 01901.
