The KIPP Panthers are off to a great start in the early stages of the season, picking up a conference road win against Whittier, 65-53.

Head coach Moody Bey described Whittier as a “tough team.”

Leading KIPP was Trosky Pena with 21 points, while Viccee Howard added 15 and Sylvester Ogbemudia chipped in with 10. Junior Caleb Bior scored all of his 14 points in the second half.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Archbishop Williams 66

Bishop Fenwick 51

The Crusaders (2-1) dropped their first game of the season against a formidable Archbishop Williams side.

James Meklis led the way for Fenwick with 15 points, while grabbing eight rebounds. Jimmy Vahey registered a double-double, pouring in 14 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.

Brady Jenkins (10 points) and Jake Bellacini (8) also contributed.

St. John’s Prep 69

Methuen 50

The Eagles soared into enemy territory and flew out with the 69-50 win.

But it wasn’t smooth sailing for The Prep, down 23-18 in the first quarter before getting it going.

That they did. Quinn Gregoire and Ben Krysiak controlled the pace of the game for the Eagles.

Lynn English 82

Revere 51

When the score was 15-14 after the first quarter, it looked like it might be a close game.

Well, the depth of the Bulldogs (2-0) proved to be too much for Revere. Kyle Kemebin led English with 26 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, and four steals. Denzell Guillen added 22 points and three assists, while Pierre Veras earned a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.

The Bulldogs hope to continue their winning ways Tuesday when they host Sommerville.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Lynn Classical 42

Medford 25

The Lady Rams (1-1) are back in the win column after a solid victory over the Mustangs. The Rams were led by freshman Divine Egbuta who scored 17 points, also active on the glass with 15 rebounds for a monstrous double-double.

Senior Kaleigh Bullock added seven points in the victory, while junior Savannah Tang finished with five.

Revere 40

Lynn English 24

It was a great start, but tough finish for the Bulldogs. English led after the first quarter by 10, but couldn’t keep its momentum throughout the game.

Revere was led by Haley Belloise and Alisha Jean, who both scored 13 points.

KIPP 57

Greater Lawrence 46

Extra time to get the job done? No problem for the KIPP Panthers, who beat Greater Lawrence in overtime.

Hailey Herrera scored eight of her 17 points in overtime to help guide the Panthers to the win. She also registered four rebounds and four assists.

Katrina Fortes found her way to the basket consistently (18 points), also grabbing 14 rebounds and blocking five shots.

Sky Delacruz contributed with 14 points in the win.

BOYS HOCKEY

Gloucester 3

Marblehead 2

A Fishermen goal with 3:48 to play was the difference in this one. Marblehead’s scorers were James Caeran and Hogan Sedky. Kyle Hart provided two assists for the Headers.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Gloucester 6

Marblehead 1

Although the scoreline shows the Lady Headers didn’t win the game, they won off the ice on Thursday evening. The game had more than one meaning as “Hockey Fights Cancer” was a successful fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. With support from parents, friends, and others, they raised more than $2,000.
