Lynn traffic stop leads to gun, drug charges

December 20, 2023 by James Jennings

Two men are facing gun and drug charges following a traffic stop in Lynn on Saturday.

Dimitry Philippe, 20, of Malden, and Eddie Rojas, 23, of Lynn, were arrested after being pulled over by a Massachusetts State Police trooper on Western Avenue.

According to an MSP news release, Trooper Brandon Chartier was conducting traffic enforcement Saturday when he spotted the driver of a gray Nissan using a cell phone while driving.

During the traffic stop, Chartier detected the “strong odor of fresh marijuana, then quickly observed the handle of a pistol protruding from the coat pocket of one of one of the passengers (Philippe).”

Chartier called for backup, and Trooper Domenic Ramasci arrived on the scene.

While the troopers attempted to remove the firearm from Philippe’s coat pocket, he initially resisted and attempted to gain control of it.

After a pat-frisk of Rojas, who was the second passenger in the car, the troopers located a firearm tucked into his waistband as well.

A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up approximately 6 ounces of marijuana.

Philippe and Rojas were arrested and transported to the Revere Barracks for booking. The driver was released from the scene with a citation.

Rojas was charged with illegal possession of a firearm, possession of a high-capacity feeding device, possession of ammunition without an FID card, possession of a Class D substance with intent to distribute, and conspiracy to violate drug law.

Philippe was charged with illegal possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, resisting arrest, assault, and battery on a police officer, possession of a Class D substance with intent to distribute, and conspiracy to violate drug law.
