Benjamin Pierce

December 25, 2023 by Benjamin Pierce

SAUGUS — School Committee Chairman Vincent Serino revealed the subcommittee assignments of the committee’s members at its latest meeting.

Serino will be the committee’s designee for the district’s Sick Bank, payroll, and co-curricular, as well as its representative on the Saugus Business Education Collaborative. In addition, Serino will serve as the vice chair of the Athletics, Finance, and Policy subcommittees, which will be chaired by John Hatch, Ryan Fisher, and Stephanie Mastrocola, respectively.

Fisher’s other responsibilities will include chairing the Food Service and Contract Negotiations subcommittees. As for Hatch, he will also serve as the vice chair for the Building Maintenance and Contract Negotiations subcommittees.

In addition to the Policy Subcommittee, Mastrocola was named the chair of the Wellness Subcommittee as well as the committee’s designee for the Shore Educational Collaborative. She will also be the vice chair for the Safety and Transportation Subcommittee.

Committee member Tom Whittredge was absent for Thursday’s meeting, but was assigned to chair the Building Maintenance and Safety and Transportation subcommittees. He will be the vice chair of the Food Service Subcommittee as well.

At the meeting, the committee voted unanimously to approve a budget amendment to take excess funds accrued as a result of leaves and late starts in order to use them in areas that require more funding.

It also voted to accept a $9,850 donation from WIN Waste Innovations to support the Saugus Middle-High School Ski and Snowboarding Club. The vote passed 3-0, as Mastrocola abstained.
