The City of Peabody scored on the basketball court Friday afternoon, with the Bishop Fenwick girls and Peabody boys racking up double-digit wins.

For the Lady Crusaders, the start of the weekend came with some hardware, too. They defeated Walpole, 56-45, to win the Sue Rivard Tournament at Oliver Ames. Cecilia Kay (22 points, 17 rebounds) took home the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award.

Celia Neilson earned all-tournament honors with 11 points, five assists, and four steals, while Isabella Lopez-Marin (11 points, 5 steals) “was great,” according to coach Adam DeBaggis.

Fenwick upped its record to 5-1 before Friday’s home matchup against Cardinal Spellman.

Dribbling over to Triton High, the Peabody boys left with a 67-40 win. Raphel Laurent (23 points, 5 steals, 5 rebounds, 4 assists), Anthony Forte (14 points, 5 steals, 4 rebounds, 4 assists), and Jariel Tolentino (10 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 assists) caught eyes.

“John Lucas (5 points), Cam Connolly, and Jim Festa also played well,” said coach Thad Broughton, whose Tanners improved to 5-1.

Despite the final scoreline, it didn’t come without positives. For the Big Blue, Victoria Quagrello (10 points, 7 rebounds) and Sam Ward (9 points) led the charge.

Lynn English captured a consolation win against KIPP in the Walter J. Boverini girls tournament, led by Jaeleigh Perry (18 points), Amara Flores (18), and Jayleen Novas-Rivera (14).

KIPP was led by Sky Delacruz (13 points) and Hailey Herrera (7).

“[It was a] tough step up in competition at the Boverini,” said first-year KIPP coach Mike McCarthy. “We will get back into the gym to work hard and be better in our next game.”
