It may have been raining across the North Shore this past weekend, but inside, it was raining goals for both St. Mary’s hockey teams.

After a midseason bump, the boys team hit the road to Bishop Feehan and returned with a 3-0 victory on Saturday.

Joey Calder, Evan Toto, and Cam McGonagle entered the goal-scoring column, while Matt Smith Jr. snagged another shutout with 21 saves.

The Lady Spartans took on Arlington Catholic in a Saturday matinee, and three periods later, remained undefeated at 6-0-1.

In the 5-0 shutout, Bella Freitas scored a pair of goals, Audrey Zinck tucked the first of her career, and Gianna Tringale (10 saves) ruled between the pipes.

BOYS HOCKEY

Somerville 2
Swampscott 0

The Big Blue fought hard, but met their match at Somerville on Saturday. It marked Swampscott’s second consecutive defeat on the road, and dipped its record to 3-2-2.

The loss came just three days after an overtime defeat at the hands of Masconomet, in which Quinn Hitchcock and Jackson Bartram found the back of the net for Swampscott.

Greater Lowell/Nashoba 5
Lynn 1

Despite a goal from John Crowley and an assist from Riley Driscoll, the Jets flew into trouble against Greater Lowell/Nashoba at Connery Rink in Lynn.

After Saturday’s loss, the Jets host East Boston at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Winthrop 3
Marblehead 1

Thanks to two goals from Winthrop’s Petey Silverman, and another from Mikey Holgerson (assist), the Vikings conquered the Headers, 3-1.

Mikey Donahue was a brick wall in the cage for Winthrop, which pulled away in the third period with two unanswered goals.

Lynnfield 7
Rockport 0

Owen Considine scored four goals – yes, four – to lead Lynnfield, Tim Sullivan potted two, Joe Raffa added another, and the Pioneers skated to a 7-0 win against Rockport.

Jarret Scoppettuolo and Will Norton each dished out four assists, while Jack Carpenter, Brendan Driscoll, and Jay Carpenter delivered with more helpers.

Mike Marenghi played well in net with 14 saves.

St. John’s Prep 5
Malden Catholic 1

The Prep set the tone early with a 12-5 shot advantage, never pulling back en route to a dominant road win against Malden Catholic.

Johnny Tighe hacked home a Jack Doherty shot to start the barrage early. Brendan Powers, Carson Irving, Camden Umlah, and Christian Rosa added the insurance – it was Irving’s first of his career.

BOYS BASKETBALL

St. Mary’s was scheduled to play at Martha’s Vineyard Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., but the game was postponed to Sunday, January 28.
