Not one, not two, but three Commonwealth Athletic Conference titles in a row for the Lynn Tech girls track and field team. The Tigers defeated Innovation at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
“I’m very proud of these kids and all their hard work,” Tigers coach James Runner said.
Jirelis DeJesus took home first place in the high jump, 300, and the 55 high hurdles to remain undefeated on the season.
“She’s an amazing young lady and she’s a better person than an athlete,” Runner said. “I’m very proud of her.”
The other standout for the girls was Kassandra Pena who finished first in the 600 meters to help bring home the conference title for Lynn Tech.
The boys track team also defeated Innovation on Monday afternoon. Bryton Osgood and Diego Castro were praised by Runner for their performances.
“Bryton did a really good job for us in the one mile,” Runner said. “Diego Castro took first place in the 600.”
The Tigers will be in action one more time this season on Sunday when they compete in the all-conference meet.
“We’ll try to win that too. If we can do that, that will be three years in a row winning that,” Runner said. “Right now though, the league is completed and I’m so proud of everyone. I’m not the easiest coach to work for. We worked really hard and it paid off.”
