LYNN — The city’s Personnel Department is hiring to fill eight vacant positions across various municipal departments, along with two additional positions — one crossing guard position and a Creative Cities project manager position for the Economic Development and Industrial Corporation.
According to Personnel Director Drew Russo, the city is currently hiring a Senior Center Outreach Director, an administrative assistant at the Treasurer’s Office, a new assistant city solicitor, as well as a number of Inspectional Services Department positions such as a new mechanic, maintenance craftsman, and head clerk.
Russo said the city typically opens more vacancies at the beginning of each year, as municipal employees are more likely to resign after the holidays.
“This usually ends up happening at the beginning of the calendar year. I think people get beyond the holidays, folks who are looking to make a change, decide it’s time to make that change,” Russo said. “We’ve been very fortunate to have a steady stream of positions that we’ve been able to build and really, you know, work toward the mayor’s goal of building a strong and representative workforce for the city.”
In addition to filling the eight municipal vacancies, applications are also open for a new position. Russo said Lynn hopes to hire a program director for its new unarmed crisis response team, Lynn Calm.
Russo said the city has already received multiple applicants for the Lynn Calm position, which he expects to go a long way in the city’s ability to provide crisis response services on behavioral health calls or issues among the homeless.
The selected candidates for the EDIC’s Creative Cities position, which is being promoted by the city, will work with the Planning Department to help plan future community gatherings and arts and culture-based projects throughout Lynn using MassDevelopment funding. Additionally, the city will hire, through the police department, a new crossing guard.

“We’ve seen a lot of people that I think are very, you know, excited and interested in working for the City of Lynn, people that are passionate about our community that have a commitment to public service that really want to help move the city forward. This is a great opportunity right now. There are so many different ways for people from different experiences and skill sets to apply and become a candidate for a position to really help move the city forward,” Russo said.
