The Lynn Tech boys basketball team accomplished a lot Wednesday night. The Tigers recorded a home win against Lowell Catholic, had three players reach double figures, and clinched a spot in the MIAA Division 4 state tournament.

In Wednesday’s 64-54 final, Giovanni Jean led the way with 21 points, six rebounds, and five assists. He was followed by partners-in-crime Ederick Gonzalez (14 points, 10 rebounds) and Andy Batista (10 points, 5 assists). Brandon Antwine did a little bit of everything, sporting seven points, four assists, and four steals.

As of Wednesday, Tech holds the No. 8 spot in 76-team Division 4. The Tigers are 10-2 and 6-1 in the Commonwealth Athletic Conference.

BOYS HOCKEY

St. Mary’s 2

Arlington Catholic 2

Sometimes, salvaging a tie is good enough – especially on the road. St. Mary’s boys hockey team tied Arlington Catholic, 2-2, Wednesday night.

After a Spartans-heavy first period in which they outshot Arlington Catholic 12-3, the frame ended scoreless. Finn Racki potted one in the second period, but St. Mary’s was looking up on the scoreboard, 2-1.

Oh, captain. Cam McGonagle tied the game for the Spartans with 6:08 to go in the third period. The game ended after neither side found the back of the net in overtime, but St. Mary’s did win the shots category, 33-24.

Catholic Memorial 2

St. John’s Prep 1

St. John’s Prep did a lot right in this one, but No. 6 Catholic Memorial tucked a goal in the final minute of overtime to upset the top-seeded Eagles (12-2) in Division 1 action.

The Prep – which nearly doubled Catholic Memorial in shots – received a goal from Caleb White off an assist from Cam Umlah. AJ Farese played well between the pipes for the host Eagles.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Gloucester 6

Marblehead 0

Despite Marblehead goalie Scarlett Lee holding her own with 21 saves, the Lady Headers had no answer for Gloucester on the road.

“Madeline Graber, a sophomore forward, battled every shift [on] both sides of the ice,” said first-year Marblehead coach Hadley Woodfin. “Kept momentum up and was a strong presence on the ice tonight.”

PLNR

Winthrop

The game has been rescheduled to Monday, Feb. 12.

WRESTLING

St. John’s Prep 65

St John’s Shrewsbury 7

The Prep upped its record to 32-0 and 5-0 in the Catholic Conference after handling St. John’s with ease. Wednesday marked 119 consecutive conference wins for the Eagles.

Winning Prep wrestlers were Graham Conway, Ben Schumacher, Braedon Goes, Boden Dormer, Jimmy Lally, Ryan DeSouza, Jayden D’Ambrosio, Matt Pineiro, Vincent Bilotti, Rani Haddad, Marc Pineiro, and Alex Bajoras.

The Prep hosts Saturday’s Division 1 dual meet state tournament at 11 a.m.
