The Marblehead Police Department is asking for the public’s help in obtaining Ring footage or something similar showing a black sedan or SUV that was involved in a hit-and-run that resulted in the car striking and killing a dog Wednesday evening.

According to a social-media post, the department said that the car was driving down the one-way Beach Street from Atlantic Avenue around 6:45 to 6:50 p.m. Wednesday.

“The driver hit a dog and did not stop. Sadly, the dog did not survive,” the post read.

When reached for comment, Marblehead Police Chief Dennis King said that an official statement will not be put out at this time as the investigation is ongoing. However, he said that detectives are “following up and canvassing the area for video.”

King called the area of the accident an isolated location, and the number of witnesses and access to video was limited.
