Ahead of a significant winter storm that could dump more than a foot of snow on Essex County on Tuesday, several communities have declared snow emergencies and canceled school.
Lynn, Marblehead, Nahant, Peabody, Saugus, and Swampscott have all called off school for Tuesday. School offices in Lynn, Peabody, and Saugus will also be closed.
In addition to canceling school, both Lynn and Peabody set down snow emergencies and parking bans starting at midnight on Tuesday. Municipal parking lots in Lynn opened to residents beginning at 6 p.m.
Saugus also implemented a parking ban, beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday and stretching until 9 p.m. that night. Limited parking will be available at the Saugus Middle/High School upper lot, located at 1 Pearce Memorial Drive. The lot designated for emergency overflow parking is known as the “Upper Lot on Left” as you drive down Pearce Memorial Drive. Additional off-street parking is available at the Anna Parker Playground parking lot, located behind the Essex Street Fire Station at 120 Essex St., Town Manager Scott Crabtree’s office said in a statement.
The Lynn Public Library, the Senior Center, and non-essential offices at Lynn City Hall will also be closed during the storm.
