ROUNDUP: Classical boys and girls get it done in Medford

It was a good Thursday night for Lynn Classical basketball fans, as both the boys and girls programs took care of business in a varsity doubleheader at Medford High.

The Lady Rams won, 47-36, making them co-champions of the Greater Boston League. They won the GBL last year, too, with a 20-0 record.

Lauren Wilson (19 points) led the way, followed by Savannah Tang (9) and freshman Divine Egbuta (9).

Classical upped its record to 14-4 and 12-2 in the GBL.

As for the boys, they squeaked out a 62-57 win with coach Marvin Avery adding he’s “very happy with the way my team’s been playing defense.”

The offense wasn’t bad, either. The Rams, 10-6, had three players in double digits in Marvin Avery Jr. (16 points), Rolky Brea Arias (10) and DJ Reynolds (10).

BOYS BASKETBALL

Lynn Tech 75

Whittier 49

A 16-2 record and 11-1 in the Commonwealth Athletic Conference – not a bad regular season for the Tigers. They jumped all over Whittier in enemy territory in this one.

Giovanni Jean scored 14 points to go with eight rebounds and eight assists, while Brandon Antwine netted 13 points alongside three assists and three rebounds.

Lynnfield 52

Triton 39

A Senior Night, and a home win for the Pioneers, who jumped to 14-5 (12-4 in the Cape Ann League). In the 52-39 final, Lynnfield was led by Alex Fleming (17 points, 14 rebounds), Chris Daniels (17 points), and Zach Pincus (8 points, 11 rebounds).

Marblehead 63

Swampscott 54

The Big Blue fell short at Marblehead High Thursday night, but not without positives.

Swampscott – which led going into the fourth quarter – “lost our rhythm,” according to coach Jason Knowles.

Connor Chiarello and Nakeylan Davis of the Big Blue each netted 19 points, while Liam Wales contributed with nine. Swampscott fell to 11-7 before its home game against Bishop Fenwick on Friday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Saugus 68

Lynn English 52

The Sachems moved to 13-4 on the season with a strong win against Lynn English in enemy territory. Saugus was led by Ashleen Escobar’s 19 points, while Ashleigh Moore connected four times from downtown and Julianna Powers added seven points.

TRACK AND FIELD

St. John’s Prep finished second in the MIAA Division 1 meet at the Reggie Lewis Center with 35.83 points. The Eagles trailed only Acton-Boxborough’s 47 points, while Brookline and Lexington shared third place (31).

Prep’s Andrew Vigneaux finished third in the 55m hurdle prelims (7.73), Daniel Padley placed fifth in the mile (4:23.46), Gael Garcia took third in shot put (50-01.75), and Andrew Bertucci snagged third in high jump (6-04.00).
