Team of the Week – Lynn Classical volleyball

Joey Barrett

April 10, 2024 by Joey Barrett

You know what I’ve been thinking? If sporting a perfect record, Lynn City Championship, and Tournament MVP doesn’t scream “textbook start,” I’m not sure what does.

The Lynn Classical volleyball team upped its record to 3-0 Monday night with a 3-2 victory against Everett. That said, it wasn’t easy. Just look at coach Chris LeBlanc’s comments just days before the match.

“Everett already has a couple of wins under its belt,” he said. “It’s not going to be easy, but I’m excited.”

Excited, indeed, as his Rams charged in the fifth and final set. Sophomore setter Kenzel Lantano registered 31 assists, five aces, three kills, and six digs, while outside hitter Viet Tran went home with 17 kills and 12 digs.

But the highlight of the week belonged to Friday – that’s when host Classical defeated KIPP Academy in the first annual city tournament.

In straight sets of 25-18, 25-14, and 25-15, Leonardo Cruz Noguero ended things with an ace in the third, and sophomore libero Long Pham was awarded Most Valuable Player.

“Our offense is going to be a challenge for other teams to deal with,” LeBlanc said. “If we can run our offense the way we want to run it and we want to run at our tempo and pace, I think it’ll be tough on other teams.”

Classical, good week.
