Election reshuffles Swampscott

Benjamin Pierce

May 1, 2024 by Benjamin Pierce

SWAMPSCOTT — Tuesday’s election brought a shake-up to the Select Board, with Danielle Leonard securing victory over Katie Arrington by more than 1,000 votes.

The contest between Leonard and Arrington garnered the majority of the community’s attention due to it being the sole contested race, but elections for the Board of Assessors, School Committee, and town moderator were also on the ballot.

2,918 ballots were cast by the town’s 12,175 registered voters on Tuesday.

Real estate developer Charlie Patsios was elected as the newest member of the Board of Assessors, filling the seat held by Lara Goodman. Goodman, who served on the board for the past three years, did not run for reelection. Patsios, who also has experience as a member of the Housing Authority and Town Meeting, received 1,927 votes.

School Committee member Glenn Paster will serve another three years after receiving 2,027 votes. Paster had served on the board previously before returning in 2021.

Town Moderator Michael McClung will also retain his position, receiving 1,962 votes on Tuesday.

The updated election results revealed by the town on Wednesday showed that Leonard received 2,099 votes, while Arrington received 736. Leonard gave credit to residents for their level of support, which led to her overwhelming win.

“This one belongs to the people of Swampscott 100%, and I will do everything I can to make sure that things start going the way they should,” Leonard said.
