You know what I’ve been thinking? There have been 10 chapters in St. Mary’s book this spring, and each has had a happy ending.
The baseball Spartans did it again this week, defeating Arlington Catholic – twice – and Masconomet, upping their record to 10-0.
Keep in mind, coach Derek Dana and company reached the Division 2 Final 4 last spring, so they must be doing something right over at Fraser Field.
In two games against Arlington Catholic, the opposition failed to score a run. In Friday’s 9-0 road win, pitchers Josh Doney and Jacob Peterson combined to strike out nine, walk no one, and allow just three hits. Isaiah Weston hit a solo shot, to boot.
And Wednesday, it was a 2-0 win with Doney (CG, 9 K, 0 BB, 3 H) improving to 5-0 on the bump. Maxwell Parent and Jared Paone lit up the offensive charge to complete the scoring.
Wedged between those two was another shutout – this time, a 1-0 final over Masconomet at Fraser. Jack Zimmerman tossed six strong innings, while Devin Duvall shined in center field.
Friday comes with a traditional archrival game against Bishop Fenwick. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. in Peabody.
Spartans, good week.
