In a Marblehead-hosted showdown with Saugus, the softball Sachems were shut out, 1-0, but not without positives.
“It was a great game by both teams,” said Saugus coach Steve Almquist. “Our pitcher, Taylor Deleidi, pitched magnificent.”
It’s true. She struck out two and allowed just seven hits against a dynamic Marblehead offense, and walked no one. Ava Rogers went 1-for-3 to lead the Saugus offense.
“I’m extremely happy with how we played,” Almquist said. “Hopefully, this gives us some momentum.”
But, in the end, it wasn’t enough to top Marblehead. Tessa Francis gave up just two hits, while striking out 12. Ruby Calienes, Hailey Schmitt, and Francis all had two hits, while Kate Andriano went 1-for-2.
“A pitchers’ duel that saw neither pitcher draw a walk,” said Marblehead coach Johnny Gold.

Lynn Tech 8
Lynn Tech fell to Chelsea at Barry Park, but “Our girls put up a great fight throughout the game,” according to Tech coach Beth Mercaldi. Genevieve McCafferty punched out five batters, while Jianny Bernable went 5-for-5 with five RBI, plus a grand slam in the second inning.

It was a happy Friday for the softball Pioneers, who doubled up host Triton and moved to 5-6 on the season (3-5 Cape Ann League).
Sophia Brown (7 IP, 2 ER, 6 H, 0 BB, 5 K) was “brilliant on the mound,” according to Lynnfield coach Hector Longo. The Pioneers were error-free behind Olivia Kelter at second and Julia Corrente at first, while Morgan Hubbard went home with three hits. Ava Gamache (hit, 2 runs) and Kaila George (single, RBI) also came to play.

It was a happy bus ride home for the Rams, who picked up a hard-fought road win against Danvers on Friday. Alfred Ventura (5 2/3 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 10 K) played well as Classical’s starter, while Braeden Ohannesian picked up the save.
The offense was led by Almani Gerardo (2-for-5, 2 runs), Christian Figueroa (2-for-4, RBI), and Reid Hannabury (1-for-2, 2 RBI), who recorded his first varsity hit.
“This was our fifth win in six games,” said first-year Classical coach Leon Elwell. “We’re playing really, really well and our young kids are starting to get accustomed to playing varsity. I’m very proud of my players.”

Call it a good old-fashioned pitchers’ duel – one won by Peabody, 3-0, over Swampscott to punch its ticket to the state tournament.
Dylan Cunningham of the Tanners picked up the win with 10 punchouts. Offensively, Cam Connolly (3 hits) and Reymi Andino (2 doubles) led the way. As for Swampscott, Nick Berube went home with three hits while Jack Spear played a strong game on the bump.

Despite a solo shot from Danny Zeitz to right field, his Sachems met their match in the Witches. Salem jumped out to an early 3-0 in the first inning and added two insurance runs in the fifth.
Cam Bernard played well for Saugus, striking out six batters across his seven-inning showing.

Eleven games, 11 wins for the Spartans, who did it again in Peabody. They defeated their archrival Crusaders, 8-3, to finish off the week in style.
Talk about a fast start. Jaiden Driscoll (2-for-3, 3 RBI) took charge in an eight-run first inning for St. Mary’s. Matt Lewis (4 IP, 2 ER, 4 K) and Jacob Peterson (3 IP, 5 K) both got it done on the bump.

Clear skies, and a clear path of victory for Marblehead. Last season’s Northeastern Conference Most Valuable Player, Mika Garber, and Anthony Vizy cruised in singles for the Magicians, while the doubles duos of Alex Boehning-Filip Wabno and Kelly-Austin Bacon were also victorious.

The Big Blue fought hard, highlighted by a doubles win from the undefeated pairing of Nick Custer and Trevor Talabian, but it still wasn’t enough to top the Pioneers of Lynnfield, who received singles wins from Dan Levin and Shea McCarthy.

Despite a Swampscott win from Ava and Alexia O’Donnell in second doubles (7-5, 6-4), Lynnfield’s starpower came to play on Friday – and then some.
Paige Martino, Lily Alves, and Maddie Sieve carried singles play for the Pioneers, while the doubles combination of Leticia Marafon and Ella Hayman took care of business.

This one was never in doubt. Lynnfield showed off its explosive offensive attack behind four goals apiece from Will Norton and Mike Murphy. Also leading the way were Kelan Cardinal (3 goals, 3 assists), Owen Considine (goal, 4 assists), and Ben Pimentel (7 saves).
