NAHANT — Nearly 250 pairs of running shoes pounded the wet pavement along the coast of Nahant Saturday morning for the Stride Along the Tide 5k, all in an effort to support the YMCA of Metro North’s Annual Fund.
Racers packed the starting line at Lowlands Park for an 8:30 a.m. race start time. Coming in first overall with a time of 17:21 was Will Dugan of Melrose. Runners across multiple communities in the region also took part in the event, including Lynn, Lynnfield, Marblehead, Nahant, Peabody, Swampscott, and Saugus.
The YMCA’s Annual Fund provides access to YMCA child care, camp, and health and wellness programs, which are available to everyone. Stride Along the Tide is one of four events in the YMCA of Metro North’s road race series.
Last year, the Y was able to provide nearly $2 million in financial aid, which helps children, adults, and their families gain opportunities “to develop a healthy spirit, mind and body regardless of income.”
