NAHANT — The town has announced that the sewer pipes on Ward Road have been fully replaced as part of the Lowlands stormwater project.
Since 2018, Nahant has invested approximately $825,000 in improvements to the Lowlands area through funding for studies, design, permitting, equipment, and construction.
“Its goal is to help with stormwater drainage,” Town Administrator Tony Barletta said. “It will completely replace the existing stormwater system in the neighborhood.”
The project is taking place on Ward, Fox Hill, and Castle roads. Each will have all of its pipes, manholes, and catch basins replaced. With the Fox Hill Road work beginning recently, Barletta expects the project as a whole to be completed relatively soon.
“Depending on weather, this project should be completed in the next couple of weeks,” Barletta said in a statement on behalf of the town.
The town is requesting an additional $500,000 for other stormwater improvements in areas that are vulnerable to sea-level rise at the upcoming Town Meeting on Saturday.
“This article will provide funding for the town to continue its efforts of stormwater system improvements throughout the entire community,” Barletta said.
