SAUGUS — At a meeting of the Conservation Commission, a Department of Conservation and Recreation project to install a catch basin on Lynn Fells Parkway was approved unanimously.
The project was presented to the board by Thomas Keough of AECom, an engineering firm, who designed the stormwater management system, and Tom Valton, the head of the DCR’s Stormwater and Environmental section who is overseeing the construction aspect of the project.
The project seeks to alleviate the issues of flooding that have long plagued the town’s residents in the areas of Donna Road and Forest Street off of Lynn Fells Parkway.
The work on the project, according to Valton, is slated to be completed before the end of the DCR’s fiscal year on June 30.
In order to help with the flooding issues, the DCR will be installing a catch basin underneath the sidewalks in the area of Lynn Fells Parkway adjacent to Donna Road.
“The sidewalk will be completely removed, excavated, and properly disposed of, and then replaced at the end of the project,” Keough said via email.
Valton said that this project is just the beginning of the work that the DCR is looking to do in the area.
Through email, Keough said that the DCR will be looking at putting an additional catch basin to the west of the one slated to be installed.
Valton said that this will provide relief from flooding for residents now, prior to larger-scale projects which are anticipated to occur at a later date.
