Lynn Tech’s softball team made it a happy Friday, exploding on offense and defeating Cristo Rey, 18-4, on an enemy diamond.
Zoe Wilson was 4-for-5 with five RBI and two runs, while Jianny Bernable went 3-for-5 with four RBI and a run.
“Genevieve McCafferty was very solid on defense, along with her seven strikeouts,” said Tech coach Beth Mercaldi, whose Tigers travel to face Nashoba Tech on Tuesday.

Trailing 4-2 heading into the fifth inning was no problem for Marblehead, which stormed back to take one from its traditional archrival. Ruby Calienes went the full seven innings for the win.
Hailey Schmitt and Tessa Andriano singled late, and Sophia Hallisey brought them home on a deep triple and scored on an overthrow to third base. Lyla McGovern went 2-for-3 for the Magicians (14-3).
For Swampscott, Mia Tringale pitched five innings and Olivia Barletta smashed a home run. Other contributors were Maddie Lilley (4-for-4, 2 RBI), Cece C’Connor (3-for-4, RBI), and Luicia Alvarado (2 hits).

Visiting Saugus (7-9) was down late, but made it work to top the Witches Friday evening.
“Nice comeback win,” said Saugus coach Steve Almquist. “We were down two going into the top of the sixth… In the top of the seventh, we were able to push across three runs.”
Taylor Deleidi got the win on the mound, while Ari Chiamca (3 H, 4 RBI) did an excellent job leading off. Felicia Alexander had a pair of hits and an RBI, while Lily Ventre went 2-for-3 “with a mammoth of a home run,” as said by Almquist.

Lynnfield (6-8 Cape Ann League) upped its record to 8-10 with a thrashing of Rockport. Junior Sierra Scanlon led the Pioneers with two singles and a double with three RBI, while freshman Chloe McEwen added two hits and also drove in a pair.

Swampscott (10-6) sophomore Jack Spear pitched a no-hitter, while striking out eight Saugus batters. He walked just two men, to boot.
“His entire arsenal was working tonight,” said Swampscott coach Joe Caponigro.
Nick Berube recorded an RBI single, while Connor Chiarello “preserved the no-hitter with an outstanding diving catch in right center field for the final out of the game,” according to Caponigro.

With the bases loaded in the final inning, the Bulldogs walked to bring in the game-winning run at Fraser Field. Kenry Manzanillo, Jariel Benzan, and Guilmer Galva went home with RBI, while Alijah Wallace allowed just four hits across five innings for English.

Friday marked the end of Lynn’s season. Looking to go out on a high note, the Jets fell short against the Sachems. Ian Brown completed his stellar spring with two goals and an assist.
Owen Toomey and Trey Rossetti also scored, as did Derrick Sok, who went home with his first high school goal.

Swampscott defended Blocksidge Field with ease on Friday, cruising to a 17-5 win over Georgetown. Coco Clopton (5 goals) and Avery Laundry (4) combined for more than half the scoring output.
Other Big Blue (12-2) helpers were Chloe Puzzo (3 goals), Sophia Ciciotti (goal, 2 assists), Lea Beatrice (2 goals), Mia Dahlman (goal, 2 assists), Victoria Pierro (goal), Fiona Keaney (assist), and Lilah Caplan (10 saves).

Despite a Grace Thomas singles win for the Fishermen, they were completely reeled in by Marblehead, which took this one, 4-1.
Maddie Conlon and Sami Dosch cashed in on singles wins, and then it was doubles time. The teams of Aoife Bresnahan-Lucia Levin and Reese Friedman-lani Gilmore each won, 6-0, 6-0.
“This was a solid win for us to get ready for the state tournament in a couple of weeks,” said Marblehead coach Tracy Ackerman. “We look forward to a tough final match against Lynnfield before having a few days to get ready for states.”

In Marblehead for some boys tennis action, the Magicians fell to 12-4 with one match remaining this spring (Monday against Newburyport).
“Minus our No. 1 star, Mika Garber (injury), Marblehead’s reshuffled lineup put up a good fight. Etan Farfel stepped up to the No. 1 spot and took the second set to a tie-breaker,” said Marblehead coach Elisabeth Foukal. “Our only win was in second doubles where freshman Alex Boehning and Ty Cooper prevailed in two tight sets.”
