LYNNFIELD — Micah, a black cocker spaniel owned by resident Joy E. Stevens, won the sporting group at the 148th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, which was recently held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York.
GCHG CH Rejoices To The Point is Micah’s official name, and he was handled by Per Ingar Rismyhr. According to the American Kennel Club, the breeds included in the sporting group are retrievers, spaniels, pointers, and setters.
Resident and avid Westminster Dog Show watcher Stephanie Slate said that it’s a “very big deal” to win the sporting group.
Slate, who does not know Stevens personally but is friends with her neighbor, praised her for breeding a dog that won the sporting group.
“And she’s doing this as an incredible mother on top of that,” Slate said. “Not only is she a successful breeder, but she’s an incredible mother taking care of a 50-year-old child with handicaps.”
